Group Manufacturing Employees Get challenged and raise money for Macmillan!
On Tuesday 9 September a small team of RBS Group employees from the Manufacturing Division took part in the first Get Challenged event for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Arriving at Hardman Boulevard for 8am for their briefing, the six employees from the Credit Card Customer Service Team were told they would be working in teams with Macmillan Fundraisers to devise new ways of raising money from supermarket collections in an 'Apprentice' style challenge.
After having only 90minutes to brainstorm their ideas and come up with a plan that would make the most money and give Macmillan new ideas to re-vamp supermarket collections for the future, the teams were sent to two local Somerfield stores to compete against each other and put their ideas to the test. Both teams really embraced the task and came up with some fantastic ideas which used all their contacts and 'blagging' skills to get freebies for raffles, fancy dress costumes, free taxi rides, local press coverage and plugs on local radio.
The teams managed to raise £604 between them and if their Community Cashback Award is successful the Royal Bank of Scotland will donate a further £500, meaning that Macmillan will receive £1,104 to help people affected by cancer.
In addition the teams gave us new ideas to take forward, managed to recruit a new volunteer and also managed to give us new leads with local businesses.
'It was a great opportunity to work with RBS and both teams came up with some great ideas on the day and worked really hard to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support. I hope that many more employees will want to take part in our Get challenged events and help us to raise even more money to help the 2 million people who are currently living with cancer in the UK and add value to the work we do.'

Fancy running for Macmillan in the Edinburgh Marathon – 31 July 2009?
The Edinburgh Marathon is a fantastic event and we are delighted to be one of the official charities in 2009. This marathon is one of the flattest and fastest courses around, so it's ideal for those looking to set a PB, while also being great for inexperienced runners intent on tackling a 26.2 mile course.
The course also takes in many of Edinburgh's finest sites, and if you don't feel you can handle the full marathon course alone, why not attempt it with three friends as part of the Hairy Haggis Team Relay?
