    Celebrate 10 years of Reading Transport at Great Knollys Street and raise money for Macmillan in Berkshire.
  • Scotlands open garden Sunday, 17 August 2008
    Scotlands garden in Wargrave, Berkshire is open for Macmillan and the National Garden Scheme, with profits from stalls and refreshments going to Macmillan directly.

Mike Gunter in the Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon

Because of the hard work and generosity of our supporters last year we were able to pay for:

  • a countywide benefit advice service based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, with one day a week in Wexham Park Hospital in Slough. This service will be able to advise and help cancer patients and their families with the financial burdens a cancer diagnosis can cause.

and help pay for:

  • grants totalling £61,306.00 to help 162 people throughout Berkshire
  • the Macmillan CancerLine, which provides free information and support for people living with cancer. This meant that last year 254 people in Berkshire could be helped by our trained advisers.

Around 3000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Berkshire every year. With improvements in treatment meaning more people are living with cancer for longer there is an increasing need for Macmillan's services. Funds raised in Berkshire help provide copies of our Cancer Guide, which provides valuable information about cancer and its treament and care, help fund our new Macmillan YouthLine for young people affected by cancer and this website, which as well as providing information has also enabled people to help and support each other through the forum. They also help provide training and equipment grants for our healthcare professionals. These are only a few examples of our many services, all of which can only be provided with the generosity of our supporters, including the thousands living and working in Berkshire.
