Mike Gunter

Mike Gunter of Wokingham took on the ultimate challenge on 19th May 2007 when he took part in the Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This extreme triathlon one of the Ironman World Championship qualifier events pushes even the fittest athletes to the limit.

Mike started at 7am; he swam 2.4 miles, then he biked 112 miles round the whole of the island, including 2 mountains, and finished off with a 26.2 mile long run, in other words a marathon! This fantastic accomplishment took him just 13hrs 51mins and 5 seconds.

Not only was he still standing at the end of this feat of endurance but he also raised an amazing £1,815 for people affected by cancer.
