We are committed to improving the lives of everyone affected by cancer, and involving everyone we can to help us achieve our goal. Around 3100 people are diagnosed with cancer in Buckinghamshire every year and they need treatment and support. Macmillan can help by providing:

Health specialists: People in Buckinghamshire already benefit from 44 Macmillan professionals; Macmillan nurses, doctors, therapists and benefits advisers, who are specialists in cancer care.

Someone to talk to: In Buckinghamshire Macmillan funds information and support managers who are there for people with cancer and their families; to talk, listen and understand what they are going through.

Financial help: Having cancer can bring extra costs – hospital parking and travelling expenses, extra heating, different clothes. Last year we helped 102 people claim £37,000 in benefits and Macmillan grants in Buckinghamshire, to help with some of these costs.

Clear information: Having the right information about cancer at the right time is essential. Last year our trained advisers on the Macmillan Cancerline (0808 808 2020) gave free information and emotional support to over 200 people in Buckinghamshire.

We can do more

This year we need hundreds of thousands of pounds in Buckinghamshire to reach even more people affected by cancer and ensure we can pay for these Macmillan professionals:

  • a Macmillan upper GI Nurse specialising in cancer of the stomach and oesophagus
  • a Macmillan family support worker
  • a Macmillan professional working to promote the best possible end-of-life care
  • a CAB officer to provide financial help and advice
  • a Lung advanced medical practitioner

All of these Macmillan services will play a significant role in improving the lives of people with cancer. Macmillan relies on voluntary donations for 99% of its income: we cannot do this without your help.

You can do something
