Some of our Macmillan supporters

In Cambridgeshire we have a wonderful base of Macmillan Services and professionals to support families affected by cancer. These include:

  • A welfare rights advisor in Peterborough based at the Peterborough Citizens Advice Bureau who can be contacted on 01733 558383, also in Peterborough we have an upper gastro intestinal nurse and a SPR in palliative medicine.
  • In Huntingdon at the Macmillan Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital we have a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care.
  • A partnership with Crossroads – the Huntingdon Crossroads Partnership – helping people in their own homes.
  • In Cambridge we have a Macmillan Facilitator, a Macmillan Gynae-Oncology, a GP Facilitator, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, a Neuro-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Anglia Cancer Network's new base is now at:
Gibson Centre, Newmarket Hospital
Exning Road
Newmarket
Suffolk CB8 7JG
Tel No: 01638 608221

The Network is a Governed Partnership between PCTs and hospital Trusts overseeing the development of cancer services in Norfolk, Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It serves a population of 2.4 million people.

Donations also help fund direct cancer services which benefits Cambridgeshire people. The Macmillan CancerLine  Freephone 0808 808 20 20 - acts as a signposting service for practical information and emotional support.

Macmillan Grants (over £82,000 in 2006) helped people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in financial need, and the Benefits Helpline 0800 500 800 is there for practical support in accessing benefits for people with a cancer diagnosis.

We also rely on local support from people in Cambridgeshire to fund:

  • training and support costs for Macmillan nurses and doctors to keep them up to date with the latest developments in cancer treatment and care
  • information and support services including CancerLine - Macmillan's free telephone service
  • patient grants to help cancer patients cover the costs for a wide range of practical needs such as travel to and from hospital, convalescent breaks and domestic appliances.
