Award winning Sue celebrates 15 years of service by escaping from HMP Walton
In celebration of receiving her 15 year service award from Macmillan Cancer Support, Sue Chaloner from Blacon and a member of Macmillan's Chester Fundraising Committee has decided to take part in Macmillan's ultimate 'blagging' fundraising event and become a convict for the day.
Sue and her fundraising friend Sue Cook, also from Blacon, will be taken handcuffed and blindfolded from HMP Walton on Sunday 6 July, driven 50 miles away to a secret location and left to travel back to a welcome party at The Picture House, London Road in Liverpool, with no map and no money!
Sue Chaloner said:
'This is definitely one of Macmillan’s challenging and exciting events that I had to register for...it is an honour to be part of Macmillan Cancer Support, and after reaching 15 years of service, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this achievement. Sue and I have our jailbird outfits at the ready and are excited about the Great Escape adventure.'
Arriva are supporting the event by providing two buses and drivers for free, Nick Gordon, Marketing Manager at Arriva North West and Wales said:
'Macmillan Cancer Support make a huge difference to many peoples' lives in this area and we are only too pleased to be helping them in their fundraising efforts. Hopefully the event will be a bit of fun for all those that take part and will also help the charity continue its excellent work in the area.'
Sue continued:
'If I can encourage anybody else reading this to register for The Great Escape, I would be extremely happy. What a fun way to raise money for people affected by cancer. All participants of The Great Escape have to make their way back to the safe haven without spending any money or using their mobile phone, so if you're up for a challenge this is a great event to get involved in...I know we can't wait!'
