Over 50 companies and organisations took part in Macmillan Cancer Support's bring a pound to work day in association with Chester's Dee 106.3 on Wednesday 26 March raising over £1,950 for people affected by cancer.

Aimee Scally, Community Fundraiser for Chester sped off with the rest of her team and Dee presenters Mike James and Breakfast Presenter Gavin to visit each and every work place and organisation registered.

To make the day even more memorable, Phil Thomas from City Limousines and John McGowan of JTC Chauffeur Services chauffeured the rest of the team throughout Chester on their search for all of those valuable pounds.

Companies such as DFS from the Greyhound Retail Park, The Chester Race Company, Lookers Renault, Wealstone Residential Home and City Walls Medical Centre all took part.  Betts Associates from Park West raised a fantastic £240 and Chester Market, Wood Memorial School in Saltney, Sewells Training Ltd and The University of Chester raised almost or over £200.

Clare Britton from The University of Chester said:

"We all had a fantastic day and really enjoyed ourselves. It was good to feel part of the whole community by participating and everyone at the University had an opportunity to join in, knowing our fundraising was for a really good cause."

The money raised will be used to help fund Macmillan Cancer Support's services for people affected by cancer and their families.  Macmillan has funded a number of medical professionals throughout Chester, including five specialist nursing posts in the area, based at the Countess of Chester Hospital, The Hospice of the Good Shepherd and in the community as well as providing over £15,760 worth of Macmillan Grants in 2007 to patients who can not cope with the financial burden cancer brings.

Macmillan also has Macmillan Information Manager based at the Countess of Chester Hospital providing much-needed practical information and support.

Aimee Scally said:

"Local fundraising events play an enormous part in helping us to fund and promote our broadening range of services within the local community.  With our ambition to reach EVERYONE affected by cancer by 2010 and 99% of our income coming from voluntary donations, we really are on the road to success with support like this.

"A great big thank you to Dee 106.3 and every workplace that took part in what was a memorable day."
