Paul Reid, 57, born and bred in Barrow in the south of the county, started running in 1985 after contracting spinal TB.  Not normally keen to take part in sponsored running events, he wanted to help Macmillan after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Paul said, "I was so moved by the help and support she received from Macmillan I felt it time to make an exception.

I find the Coniston 14 is one of those runs where you forget all about the pain involved in running those hills until you are stood on the start line thinking why have I entered this again!

Seriously though, it is a great run and the thought that kept me going was if my mam can battle breast cancer, then I can complete this."

Paul's friends and family helped him raise a fantastic £513 through sponsorship.
