As part of the Silo's Direct Encapsulation project at Sellafield, Norwest Holst Ltd and Sellafield Ltd have set up a joint safety initiative scheme which goes by the name of SID (Safety Initiative Donation).

The aim is to keep 'Sid' safe and promote a safe working environment throughout the project lifetime which in turn will benefit chosen charities and good causes. Macmillan Cancer Support in Cumbria was the lucky recipient this time.

Any person directly involved with the project has the freedom to choose their own individual charity or good cause.

On the successful completion of a working period of 28 days without a lost time or medical treatment accident a draw takes place at a joint departmental safety committee meeting where the charity or good cause is randomly chosen to receive a donation of £1,000.

Seen being presented with the cheque by Jack Fawcett, quantity surveyor and Claire Jones, safety advisor (far right) is Macmillan Community Fundraiser Barbara Sharpe.
