Hertfordshire walks wonders
On the hottest day of the year over 300 people took steps together for Macmillan Cancer Support.
On the hottest day of the year over 300 people walked wonders for Macmillan Cancer Support's annual event at Fairland’s Valley Park, Stevenage and are aiming to raise over £6000. The family walk sponsored by npower attracted people from all over the county and even as far as Essex and Buckinghamshire.
People of all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities either walked, jogged or ran the 3 mile route with some even completing the course twice. Fairland’s Valley turned into a sea of green as people showed their support for Macmillan by wearing their Walk Wonders T-shirt and special message cards on their backs for their loved ones, who have been supported by Macmillan Cancer Support.
Amongst the walkers was Sue Melhuish who said:
"The day has been absolutely brilliant, fun for all the family, and all for such a good cause."
All the money raised from this event will help Macmillan improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Each year over 4,500 people in Hertfordshire will receive a cancer diagnosis. Macmillan wants to help all of these people by providing them with the emotional, practical, medical and financial support they need.
Kerry Briars, Macmillan Cancer Support Hertfordshire Community Fundraiser said:
"Sunday was such a success, everybody had an enjoyable day and raised lots of money for Macmillan.
"We would just want to say a very big thank you to everybody that walked, all the volunteers we had on the day, the Mayor and MP for starting the walk, the photographer Steve Gemmell, Fairland’s Valley Park and to Cookie from Hertbeat Radio for the live link on the day."
