A Macmillan Professional with patient

The money you raise helps us to provide more health professionals.

Around 2,100 people are diagnosed with cancer in Shropshire every year. They need treatment  and support. Macmillan helps by providing:

  • Health Specialists: People in Shropshire benefit from 27 Macmillan professionals; nurses, doctors and therapists, who are specialists in cancer care. They help people manage their symptoms and aim to make living with cancer easier.
  • Someone to talk to: Macmillan supports a network of self-help and support groups around the county.
  • Financial help: Having cancer can bring extra costs - last year in Shropshire we gave a total of £47,775 in patient grants to help 131 people in the county.
  • Clear Information: The Macmillan CancerLine provides free information and emotional support for people living with cancer and now we have the Macmillan YouthLine, especially for people aged 12 - 21.

In 2007, Macmillan will be supporting cancer services across Shropshire:

  • Two new Macmillan nurses: specialising in lung cancer and in kidney and prostate cancer.
  • A Macmillan psychologist
  • A Macmillan GP
  • A Macmillan musculo-skeletal therapist: based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital

Macmillan is campaigning for a better deal for people in Shropshire affected by cancer, now and in the future. We want everyone with cancer to receive the same level of care regardless of who they are and where they live.

Together we can challenge inequalities, push for change and make sure that cancer stays a priority for the government.

Ways you can help us

By giving money: Every donation, big or small, makes an essential difference to people living with cancer. Please donate online, or remember us in your will.

By organising a collection or event: Could  you use your hobby, or get together with friends to raise money for Macmillan. Why not set yourself a challenge and get sponsorship? What about making us "your" charity at work or at school? We will help with any events you might like to plan.

By joining a Macmillan event:  Whether it's the World's biggest Coffee morning, the Flora London Marathon, or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, there is a Macmillan event for you and we'll support you all the way.
