Irene Bothomley,Chairman of Macmillan Cancer Support's Camberley Committee recently organised a Ladies Lunch raising over £2000 at Pennyhill Park Hotel, Bagshot.  The event was hosted by David Connell, Operations Manager at the hotel, and commenced with a glass of champagne, served in the beautiful surroundings of the Lily Pond Terrace.

The event was attended by 100 ladies including the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Patricia Pearce.  This was the Mayor's last official function in her Mayoral year and she praised the Camberley Committee for their hard work in raising money at their various events.

A delicous 3 course meal was prepared by Executive Chef David Campbell.

Mary Hayes, Macmillan Lead Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist at Frimley Park Hospital gave an interesting speech on her experiences as a Macmillan Nurse and said that "the funding of Macmillan posts was all down to the generosity of local people and their kind donations".

A raffle took place which included amongst the prizes a lunch for 2 at the Hotel's Latymer Restaurant, donated by the hotel: a Complimentary ardrobe Assessment and Personal Style Analysis donated by Celebrity Fashion Stylist, Wendy Elsmore.

Table flower arrangements for the event were kindly donated by Bloomster Designs Cobham and were raffled at the end of the afternoon.

Operations manager David Connell said:

"Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa have always endeavoured to support local charities, but this year we wanted to make a difference to one in particular and through Irene Bothomley, who happens to be one of our members, we chose Macmillan Cancer Support.  This has been a successful event and we are delighted to have been able to raise in excess of £2000 to help support the great work being undertaken at Frimley Park Hospital and other Surrey hospitals.  We have further events planned this year and we hope to raise lots of money for a worthy cause.  The success of this event has come of the back of our very successful Ladies Lunches which we hold bi-monthly and it is wonderful to see so many familiar faces here today supporting Macmillan."

Irene said:

"I would like to thank the Management and Staff of Pennyhill Park Hotel for their generous hospitality and for making the day such an enjoyable event and I look forward to the many events planned at the Hotel during the year".

This year money raised by the Camberley Committee will go towards the funding of:

  • A Macmillan Lead Community Clinical Nurse Specialist based at Woking Hospice.
  • A Macmillan Gynaecological Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist based at the Royal Surrey Hospital.
  • Two Part time Macmillan Welfare Rights and Benefits Advisors based at Guildford's Citizen's Advice Bureau, who will provide a service to people living with cancer across Surrey.

We will also support Macmillan grants within the Camberley area.
