Mike Banbury and Oliver Vaulkhard
Mike Banbury and Oliver Vaulkhard are braving the seas for Macmillan Cancer Support! At 8am on the 22nd May, local fundraisers Janet and Erin waved off Mike and Ollie on their 8.1 metre Rigid Inflatable Boat from North Shields Ferry Terminal.
Their epic journey on board the Scorpion has taken them down the Tyne, heading left for Scrabster in Northern Scotland. This 300 mile stretch will take about 10 hours, after which they will refuel and stay over. The following day they will travel around Cape Wrath and down through the Western Isles for Oban for another stopover. Day 3 takes them from Oban to Arklow in Southern Ireland, which is about 280 miles. By day 4 the guys will be off to Falmouth, with day five being the ‘big one’ - about 350 miles all the way along the South Coast to Ramsgate - then day 6 to Whitby for a well deserved fish and chips and a couple of pints!! The finally morning of Ollie and Mike’s journey morning will take them on a 40 mile run home to South Shields and the finish of their 7 day, 1900 mile adventure.
