Macmillan nurse wins NHS award and lands book deal!
Christine Reddall, Macmillan Nurse for Care Homes, was delighted when her booklet on palliative care was nominated for the 2006 West Midlands NHS Innovation Competition and won! She was presented with a cheque for £2,000 to extend her project work into the nursing homes she visits.

As a specialist in palliative care Christine realised the need for an easy to read, non medical booklet on palliative care for care home staff.
She comments:
"it is often the unqualified members of the care home staff, who spend most time with the patients. Having access to information that they can understand will help to enhance their confidence and skills when caring for patients with potentially life threatening illnesses like cancer."
Christine has always wanted to work in palliative care and enjoys helping both patients and carers to be better informed at such a difficult time.
She believes her main priority is to help equip the carers with the skills to provide a good standard of palliative care to residents and their families.
Christine is expanding her work into a book on palliative care for carers in care homes which is due to be published nationally this summer by Radcliffe Publishing.
