Davids Cathedral Challenge
Ex teacher and organ enthusiast David Power, from Tisbury, set himself the challenge of playing the organs of 43 cathedrals in England in just 21 days!
David gets in some practice on the organ
David set himself a target of £10,000 to be raised through sponsorship and donations and he's done it!
He started his challenge on 13 October in Salisbury Cathedral and ended on 2 November in Bristol Cathedral. It had been a long-time ambition of David’s to play all the cathedrals in England and he gets lots of practice in as he is the organist at Salisbury Crematorium, a post he took up upon retiring from 39 years as a teacher!
The fundraising culminated in one last event on 17 November when Richard Shephard conducted Mozart’s Serenade for Wind Instruments at a concert in Tisbury Parish Church.
We are delighted that David and his wife reached his target. 'It was quite a tiring thing to do, I was travelling most days to reach the next cathedral but I had a few days rest to recover. I even went to the Isle of Man to play their organ and that was very exciting. I am so pleased that I reached my goal of £10,000 and as all my travelling costs were sponsored, all of it goes to Macmillan.'
