Last year we raised £4.4 million in Scotland from donations and our fundraising events include the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, the Big Fish and Conquer a Corbett. This year we need to raise even more to keep up with huge demand for our services, so get in touch if you'd like to get involved.

The Big Fish

Win up to £1000 and land a day's fishing with Paul Young!

The Big Fish is back – and this year we want hundreds of anglers to take part! Whether you're a seasoned angler or just want to try something new while raising money for Macmillan, the Big Fish is the event for you!

The event is taking place in fisheries across Scotland and Northern Ireland this summer.  At each venue, participants will have the chance to win up to £1000, and one lucky angler will land a day's fishing with Paul Young, presenter of TV show Hooked on Fishing.

Last year's Big Fish raised £30,000 for Macmillan, but with your help we're sure we can raise even more this year. All the money we collect from the Big Fish will be used to fund vital local cancer services.

Conquer a Corbett

Conquer a Corbett is back for May 2008 - and we've set ourselves the mammoth task of having someone conquer every one of Scotland's 219 Corbetts in one month!

Last May our dedicated fundraisers climbed 129 of the peaks, raising £40,000 for Macmillan. But with your help we know we can conquer every peak this year, raising even more money to fund our vital services.

Conquer a Corbett is being supported by Hollywood star Patrick Stewart who is urging everyone to take on our challenge, while the Scottish Mountaineering Club are providing all health and safety information you'll need to stay safe during your climb. The World's Biggest Coffee Morning. Get involved in one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. Host a coffee morning or go to one in your area. www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee for more details.

Campaigns and services

Macmillan in Scotland is committed to campaigning for change to benefit people affected by cancer. We influenced the Scottish Government's decision to cap hospital parking charges at £3, and its decision to abolish prescription charges by 2011. We will continue to campaign to influence decision-makers on the issues that matter to people affected by with cancer.

Macmillan's Working Through Cancer campaign generated considerable interest when it launched late last year. The campaign, aimed at improving the support and information for workers with a cancer diagnosis, is still ongoing.  We also have information and advice for employers on how to support a staff member with cancer. Information is available from www.macmillan.org.uk/work or by telephoning: 08000 898 500 (freephone).
Before Christmas the SNP Government announced that prescription charges will be phased out from April 2008 and abolished in 2011. This announcement comes after a highly effective campaign from Macmillan to have prescription charges abolished for people with cancer.
