How to get there
Directions from the M1 Southbound
Leave the M1 at Junction 28, (signposted to Derby A38, Matlock A632) and join the A38 towards Derby. Leave the A38 at the slip road for the A610 towards Ambergate and the A6. At the A6, turn right towards Matlock and after two miles turn left onto the B5035 towards Wirksworth. In Wirksworth, turn right at the T-Junction with the B5023 and then turn left to rejoin the B5035. Continue for four miles and Carsington Water will be on your left.
Directions from the M1 Northbound
Leave the M1 at Junction 25 (signposted to Nottingham, Derby, Ilkeston A52) and join the A52 towards Derby. Travel through Derby following signs for the A52 and Ashbourne. In Ashbourne follow signs towards Buxton but before leaving the town turn right onto the B5035 towards Carsington Water. Carsington Water is six miles from Ashbourne.

Open from 9.00am – 10.00am.
The walk begins at 10.00am.
Walk duration
The eight mile walk will take between three and three and a half hours to complete.
Challenging aspects
Part of the walk is challenging with some steep hills.
Suitability for pushchairs and/or wheelchairs
Unsuitable due to some uneven surfaces
Suitability for dogs
Dogs are welcome on this walk but must be kept on a lead.
Car parking
There is a car park at the start/finish which costs £3.50 for all day parking.
Public transport
The 411 service from Ashbourne to Matlock goes to Carsington Water. Coming from Derby, take the Trans-Peak bus to Cromford and from there you can pick up the 411 bus.
Toilets
Available at the start/finish in the visitor centre.
Refreshments and picnicking
Refreshments are available from the visitor centre at the start/finish. Water will be available at the start/finish and en-route at the Miner's Arms public house.
Don't forget to bring
Appropriate footwear, comfortable clothing and a rain proof jacket.
