Enjoy a fun, family walk along the charming Cuckoo Way, the towpath of the former Chesterfield Canal. Along the path, you will pass enchanting woodlands before heading towards Netherthorpe Landing Strip and then finishing at the village of Harthill.

How to get there

Directions from the North
Exit the M1 at Junction 30 and take the first exit off the roundabout, sign-posted Rother Valley Country Park. Stay in the left-hand lane. At the next roundabout take the first exit again sign-posted Rother Valley Country Park. At the next roundabout take the second exit (straight over). Turn left sign-posted Rother Valley Country Park. Follow the road to the T-junction, turn right and then immediately turn left, sign-posted to Harthill. Follow the road for about two miles. At the mini roundabout turn left and the car park is on the right.

Directions from the South

At the next roundabout take the first exit, again sign-posted to Rother Valley Country Park. At the next roundabout take the second exit (straight over). Turn left, sign-posted Rother Valley Country Park. Follow the road to a T-junction, turn right and then immediately turn left, sign-posted to Harthill. Follow the road for about two miles. At the mini roundabout turn left and the car park is on the right.

Registration
Open from 9.30am – 10.15am.
The walk will begin at 10.30am.

Walk duration
The ten mile walk will take approximately three and a half hours to complete.

Challenging aspects
Some of the walk is alongside water with no barriers, so children must be supervised at all times. Parts of the route are very rarely walked so care must be taken. 

Suitability for pushchairs and/or wheelchairs
Unsuitable due to some of the walk being alongside water with no barrier. 

Suitability for dogs
This walk is suitable for dogs, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

Car parking
Harthill public car park has limited parking spaces at the start of the walk. There is additional parking on the roadside. 

Public transport

Bus 21 from Sheffield and Rotherham.
Bus 271 and 251 for more local services from Waterthorpe, Killamarsh, Anston and Dinnington.

Toilets
There are toilet facilities at a nearby pub which is located approximately fifty yards from the finishing point. 

Refreshments & picnicking
Bottles of water will be provided at the start of the walk.
Hot and cold beverages will be served at the finishing point. There is a pub located approximately fifty yards from the finishing point.
There are no picnicking facilities available. 

Children's activities
There will be a quiz for children to take part in on the walk. 

Don't forget to bring
Appropriate footwear as the route follows some rarely walked tracks. Dress according to weather conditions as the route is exposed.
