Where can I volunteer?
Macmillan has local offices and information centres throughout the UK and is supported by thousands of volunteers fundraising in the community. Find out what roles we're currently recruiting for in your area
How do I apply for a volunteer role?
Once you have found a role that you're interested in that's in your area, please download an application form and return it to the person named on the role description. Information and support centre roles have a different application process. Please contact them directly for information using our search facility
How much time would I have to give?
This depends on you and what you'd like to do for us. Helping with local collections could be flexible and whatever time you are able give us will be much appreciated. Some roles require a more specific time commitment and this is stated in the role description.
Can I claim expenses?
Volunteers should not be out of pocket as a result of volunteering for us! We reimburse reasonable travel costs to and from the organisation, travel while volunteering and other expenses by arrangement.
Will you interview me?
For most roles we'll invite you to meet us for a chat. It's a chance for you to find out more about the role and the organisation and we can get to know you better and find out how to best match your skills and interest to our current need.
Do I need to supply references?
We like to take up references for all roles and ask you to supply this information on your application form. If you are applying for a role in an information centre, criminal records disclosure checks may be required. Please contact the centre directly for information using our search facility
What skills and experience do I need?
Many roles just require your time, energy and enthusiasm! The role description will list any additional skills or experience you may need.
What support and training will I be given?
Volunteers receive an induction and will be given all the training and support necessary to feel confident in the role. Staff members are on hand to provide ongoing help and support.
None of the volunteer roles suit me, can I still help?
If you're interested in sharing your professional skills and there are no opportunities that match this, please contact the volunteering department for advice by emailing vcoordinators@macmillan.org.uk
I still have questions about volunteering, who can I contact?
