How Macmillan help cancer support groups
Macmillan is here to help you. We offer support, information, guidance and training to people involved in new or existing cancer (self help) support groups.
Self help and support workshops
We run training workshops designed for members of cancer (self help) support groups; people living with cancer, their partners, relatives, friends and carers; health and social service professionals and complementary therapists involved in cancer care.
Types of training
We aim to bring people together to share experiences and to help them obtain practical and emotional support. The workshops are free of charge and involve group participation and usually lasts one day or longer. Most workshops offer:
-
introduction to ways to help support people living with cancer
-
offer skills training to people who are supporting others affected by cancer, either in a group setting or one-to-one, such as counselling skills
-
examine the practical issues in starting and running a group
-
equip people with cancer and health professionals with the skills necessary to influence cancer services.
For more information about training workshops please contact Heather Petty hpetty@macmillan.org.uk or Katy Walker kwalker@macmillan.org.uk or call them on 0207 091 2010.
