How do I apply for my own place in the BUPA London 10,000 entry system?

The official own place entry system is now full. Now the only way to secure a place in the BUPA London 10,000 is to apply for a charity guaranteed place.

If you were lucky enough to secure your own place prior to 31 October we would love you to run for Team Macmillan.

What do I do if the run organisers have already filled all their places?

If the official entry system is full, you can still apply for one of our guaranteed places for which we ask for a pledge to raise a minimum of £250 for people affected by cancer.

How do I apply for a Team Macmillan Guaranteed Place?

Team Macmillan has purchased some guaranteed places in the BUPA London 10,000 which we will allocate to runners who have missed out on obtaining their own place. In return for one of these we ask for a minimum sponsorship pledge of £250.

Find out how to apply.

When will I find out whether I've been successful in obtaining a Guaranteed Place?

Please ring us 3 days after you sent your application form to find out whether you have been offered a Team Macmillan Guaranteed Place.

How much money do I have to raise?

We ask that all our Guaranteed Place runners pledge to raise a minimum of £250.  This will be due in two months after the event (26 July 2008). Of course we'll give you all the encouragement and support you'll need to make sure you smash that target.
If you have already secured your own place then we do not set a minimum sponsorship target for you, we just ask you to raise as much as possible and we'll provide you with the same level of care and support that our guaranteed place runners receive.

What kind of support will Macmillan give me if I join the team?

When you join Team Macmillan you will be supported throughout your entire BUPA London 10,000 experience. In addition to our initial fundraising pack, we'll send you regular newsletters with tips to help you prepare for the big day. And if that isn't enough, we will give you the loudest support possible throughout the race from before the start and at our supporter points.

What happens if I get injured?

If you are injured whilst training we recommend you contact your GP or a specialist sports injury clinic.  They will be able to advise you if you are fit enough to run.   If you do need to withdraw you will need to notify the race organisers as soon as possible and return your race number and running chip (if you have received them by then).  Please also let Macmillan know that you will not be running so we can advise you about deferring your place to the 2008 race.

When will I get my race number?

The race organisers will send you your race number and your running chip around a month before the race. These are vital and you will not be able to start the race without them.

What difference will my sponsorship make?

The BUPA London 10,000 is a major fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support. Your support will go a huge way to help people affected by cancer, for example:

  • £50 could buy a liquidizer for someone who can't eat solid food
  • £180 could allow someone with cancer to keep the heating on when they really need it
  • £52,500 could fund a Macmillan nurse for a whole year
